What We have been Learning About...
Justice School Update
What We have been Learning About... Already our students have learned about hunger and homelessness. We started learning about classism and made skits about economic inequality. Recently, we took a tour with the MYTOWN tour group and just last week we began learning about the conflict in Darfur. Just this week we received a thank you card from CIW for the postcards our students mailed to burger king! In the following few weeks we are planning on learning more about Darfur (with special guest Nguyen Weeks from the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, she will be following teaching the students about speaking out against the conflict in Darfur). We will also learn about The Iraq War with AFSC as our Guest! Later on we will learn about Sacco Vanzetti and Chuck Turner. We welcome you to participate in the Justice School's on going quest to provide social justice education to children and youth through guest speakers and workshops. If you are interested in joining us please contact JooYoung: We meet each Sunday from 11:00 to 12:45, please call JooYoung if you are interested in attending please leave a message at: 617-266-6710 2007-10-26 17:29:09 GMTComments: 0 |Permanent Link
The Justice School will be featured on Channel 7's Asian Focus! A wonderful first class! ![]() A few updates for everyone!
First off, I had the honor of talking about the Justice School on Asian Focus, a news show for Channel 7 News. It will air April 8th 2008. I will post photos from the interview. Hopefully this will help get the word out about our awesome social justice program. Our first class went wonderfully, the students enjoyed their time and also learned a lot about their perception of what a peaceful world is. We brainstormed a list of word associations about the word peaceful and world. Afterwards the students created collages and drawings depicting a peaceful world. They also played name games, cooperation games and had fun getting to know one another. Next class will be this upcoming Sunday the 16th, we will continue to get to know one another and talk about what issues hinder a peaceful world. Hopefully, this class session will bring about a discussion about what issues the students may be interested in learning about. New comers are always welcome, if you have questions please contact me at: jooyoung@commchurch.org or call me on Fridays between 10:30 AM-6:30 PM 617-266-6710 2007-09-14 16:05:42 GMTComments: 0 |Permanent Link
Welcome our new Students!
The Justice School will have its first class September 9th 2008! Please let friends and family know about our program if you haven’t told them already.
During our first meeting the students will discuss the meaning of justice and injustice. Also we will create artwork based on their ideas of what a peaceful world would look like and get to know one another. It should be a fun and interesting class for our students. Be sure to welcome them on their first day at the Justice School! Spread the word about the Justice School! Students will meet in the Lothrop Auditorium and wait till after the Justice School update to go upstairs. The class will run from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm in the “Guatemala Room” on the third floor. Also... We have been added to mapjen.org! Check this out! www.mapjen.org (mapjen.org is the Massachusetts Peace, Justice and Environment Network) 2007-09-05 01:02:49 GMTComments: 0 |Permanent Link

JUSTICE SCHOOL PREVIEW!
JUSTICE SCHOOL PREVIEW!
Sunday - June 3rd 2007 - Community Church of Boston On Sunday June 3rd, we will be holding a 'preview' version of the Justice School. This event has been put together to allow parents and prospective students time to check out what the program would be like, meet other students and ask questions. We will meet at the Community Church at 11:00 AM. The students will participate in a series of workshops and fun activities, the lesson plan I have chosen for the event will reflect what they will be learning about and discussing in the upcoming school year. There is no fee to attend this fun event. Please join us at: The Community Church of Boston 565 Boylston Street, Boston, MA in Copley Square. We will begin our Justice School event at 11:00 am. This is a program that comes with no particular religious creed but instead encourages the youth and children to search for their own truth through lessons that will be fun, interesting, and include art, skits, books, music, and many social justice activist guests. Please email JooYoung (director) if you are interested in attending our preview event so we will know how many students to expect. For more info, or to register: email: jooyoung@commchurch.org or call: 617-266-6710 or visit: www.thejusticeschool.org 2007-07-28 18:18:52 GMTComments: 2 |Permanent Link
